Welcome to Medical Minute with Paul Birmingham, brought to you by Oro Valley Hospital.
I’m here with Dr. Lorraine Manciet, she is board certified family medicine physician. Doctor, what is diabetes?
Diabetes occurs when there is too much sugar in your blood as a result of either the bodies inability to make insulin, to use insulin, or a combination of the two.
So how does one know if they are diabetic? Are there symptoms?
There are symptoms, but most people don’t recognize them. With type one diabetes, its increased urination, increased thirst, increased hunger. Despite that, weight loss and fatigue and irritability. Type two diabetes you have the same symptoms with the exception of the weight loss, but you have increased infections, your vision can be blurred, tingly and numbness of your hands and feet and recurrent urinary tract infection.
