I’m here with Dr. Paul Butler, a board certified gastroenterologist with Northwest allied physicians. Doctor, how is colorectal cancer treated?
Early cancer can be treated right through a scope. Some polyps develop cancer by something as simple as removal of the polyp through the scope the cancer can be cured. Unfortunately many cancers advanced beyond that stage to the point where more aggressive treatment is required. Surgery is the treatment of choice and the needed treatment once the cancer is invasive and spread outside of a polyp. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be used in patients with advanced disease.
Doctor, how can I prevent colorectal cancer?
The beast approach is to generally take on a healthy lifestyle. Eat a healthy diet, maintain an ideal body weight, exercise, and then of course have regular colon cancer screenings.
